The Devonshire Association Buildings Section presents a programme of events offering a range of visits, lectures and presentations. Since its beginnings in 1987, the Section Recorders have identified and recorded buildings under threat from development or neglect, particularly farm buildings. We are also developing a series of training days in researching, conserving and recording buildings.
The year begins in March with the Spring Meeting, traditionally the platform for the Recorders to present their work but also including an invited speaker. From April to July and in September and October there are visits to buildings of interest. These range from castles to country houses to cottages, catering for a wide range of interests.
In the past we have visited the Royal William Yard in Plymouth, Kilworthy Farm near Tavistock, Weare Gifford Hall near Torrington, Higher Uppacott on Dartmoor, and many historic churches. The year concludes in November at our AGM, which is held in one of the many interesting towns around the county and includes an invited speaker and a visit to local notable buildings.
